Fringe frolics in Edinburgh

Fringe frolics in Edinburgh
With last year's event boasting 1,867 shows at 261 venues, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe claims to be the world's biggest arts festival.

Offering a "wealth" of entertainment to visitors to the city, the Fringe 2007 - to be held between August 5th and 27th - brings together comedy, theatre and dance performers from around the world.

Over 1.5 million tickets were sold for the event in 2006, although many people also took advantage of the 177 free-of-charge performances.

Earlier in the month, the Edinburgh Festival was voted the number one tourist experience in the UK by readers of the Rough Guide series of books.

The guide said there was "simple fascination to be had just watching it all swirl around you".

Tickets for shows are available from Monday June 11th.

While in Edinburgh, visitors can take an open-top bus tour of the historic city, enjoy a variety of shopping districts or take a trip to the city's zoo.

While there's no doubt that the train represents a convenient way of getting around, questions persist over the ability of the rail service to cope with growing demand while keeping fares relatively inexpensive.
