Manchester Airport is to undertake a £35 million redevelopment of its terminal 1 following a study conducted into passenger attitudes.
Psychologists evaluated the body language and monitored conversations to determine the type of emotional experience passengers have while in the airport before they catch their flights.
The redevelopment plans are intended to reflect the results of the study, creating four new areas within the building to meet the requirements of passengers.
Andrew Harrison, commercial director at the airport, said: "We're very in touch with our passengers' needs and we're very excited about the start of work of this new, specially designed airport experience."
The airport's "attention to detail" ought to ensure that it continues to attract a high number of passengers, he added.
Earlier this month,
Manchester Airport recently announced that it had gone "smoke-free" in all its landside areas ahead of the national smoking ban on July 1st.
