A new study has revealed that British holidaymakers are set to spend spend spend this summer while away on their annual break.
The survey by Post Office Travel Services showed that one-third of travellers do not intend to set a holiday spending limit, while 48 per cent said they regularly set a budget but rarely meet it.
Men were found to be the most spend-happy on short holidays, while older women were more likely to keep a tight rein on their finances on longer breaks.
In addition, dining out and seeing the sights were discovered to eat up the biggest proportion of holidaymakers' cash.
"If you do not have unlimited funds at your disposal - and not many of us do - it makes sense to set a spending limit, even when on holiday. However, these figures prove that surprisingly few people do so," commented Kevin McAdam, head of travel for the Post Office.
A recent study by flight information provider Streamthru.com found that 55 per cent of travellers intend to spend £50 each on average on duty-free goods this month.
