Officials at
Gatwick Airport have announced a series of changes to the way in which vehicles can access the site.
From June 20th, private vehicles picking up air passengers will have to go to a short stay car park, with parking fees starting at £1 for a 15-minute stay.
Private vehicles dropping off passengers will use the Lower Forecourt, which will benefit from increased capacity, said the airport.
The announcement comes as part of efforts by the hub to slash congestion around the airport and help holidaymakers travel to and from the airport as quickly as possible.
"Primarily, we wish to ensure the forecourts are less congested and managed in a more effective manner, with safety and security of our passengers and staff being our number one priority," commented Andy Flower, managing director of
Gatwick Airport.
Work is currently being carried out at the airport to extend its security facilities and reduce queuing time for passengers.
