A growing number of British holidaymakers are choosing to indulge in daredevil activities while abroad, according to new research.
About half of all travellers have taken up pursuits such as white-water rafting and parasailing during their breaks, the study by price comparison website Moneysupermarket.com found.
Other popular impulsive activities included rock-climbing and bungee jumping. However, relatively tamer pastimes such as cycling, volleyball and horse-riding remained the most popular overall pursuits for Britons, with women found to be more likely to choose less dangerous sports.
"Our research shows Brits don't think twice before deciding take part in impulsive activities while abroad," commented Richard Mason, director of insurance at Moneysupermarket.com.
Popular locations for white-water rafting include Scotland,
New Zealand,
Austria,
Canada and
Guatemala, while parasailing is particularly prevalent in destinations such as the
Caribbean, the
USA and
Finland, which has turned land-based parasailing into a competition sport.
