Birmingham Airport has announced that it has won the Best Airport in Europe award from Airports Council International (ACI).
The award, which is for airports with passenger traffic of between five and ten million people, was given to the hub for its activities within the local community and its commitment to environmental issues.
ACI's judging panel included experts from the European Disability Forum,
Swiss International Airlines, Star Alliance Services, Hartfield-Jackson Atlantic International and UBS.
"We are particularly pleased that special recognition was given to our environmental and community programmes, which are in place to mitigate our operational impacts on the environment and local people, and provide positive improvements for our neighbours," commented airport managing director Joe Kelly.
Destinations directly served by Birmingham Airport include

Goa, with connections provided to worldwide locations such as
Cape Town,
Mauritius,
Auckland,
Moscow and
Thailand.
