Passengers have voted
Singapore Airlines as the world's best airline for 2007 in the latest survey by Skytrax.
The carrier beat off competition from the likes of
Thai Airways,
Cathay Pacific and
Qatar Airways - which may have found some consolation in the prize for best first class cabin - to scoop the top title in the 2006-07 World Airline Survey.
Other winners in the poll included the
Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse at
Heathrow Airport for best business class lounge,
British Airways for being voted the best transatlantic airline,
Emirates for best inflight
entertainment and
Etihad for best economy class
food.
"The World Airline Survey is primarily focused on the quality attributes that different airlines offer - be it in the airport or the onboard environment," commented Edward Plaisted, chief executive of Skytrax.
"It is all about quality and how the customer rates one airline against another," he added.
Singapore Airlines recently won the title of best global carrier in a poll carried out by Travel + Leisure magazine, while also winning a number of awards at the Official Airline Guide awards held earlier this year.
