A total of 48 domestic and European flights have been cancelled following a power cut at
Manchester Airport early this morning (August 7th).
The outage occurred at 05:30 BST across all three terminals after a flood knocked out power supplies in an electrical plant room in an airport office building.
While power was restored at 08:00 BST, a number of services are seeing significant delays in addition to the cancellations as airport staff cope with the backlog of passengers attempting to check in, the Manchester Evening News reports.
Travellers have been advised to attend the airport as normal and to not arrive any earlier than usual.
"Quite a number of electrical systems were knocked out, but emergency power kicked in and we maintained full security as usual," said a spokesperson for the hub.
The cancelled flights included several of those travelling to
Amsterdam,
Brussels,
Copenhagen,
Frankfurt and
Jersey, among other destinations.
