Air Jamaica has announced the resumption of a normal flight schedule at
Kingston following a hurricane which cancelled numerous services over the last three days.
The airline said that the first commercial flight to arrive in
Jamaica after Hurricane Dean was a service from
Fort Lauderdale to
Montego Bay and that it has resumed operations at Kingston.
Hurricane Dean, a category five weather system that has now been downgraded to category one, resulted in the cancellation of a number of
flights to the Caribbean from London and the
USA, among other locations.
"As Jamaica's national carrier, it was important for us to be the first to resume operations and get back to business in Jamaica," commented Paul Pennicook, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Air Jamaica.
"We hope to recuperate very soon from the setbacks caused by Hurricane Dean," he added.
The hurricane caused damage in
Mexico yesterday and has since moved offshore. However, it is expected to return to land later today.
