German carrier
Air Berlin has announced that it is pulling its service between
Stansted Airport and
Glasgow due to spiralling costs.
A spokeswoman for the airline said that the last flight on the route will take place on October 31st. The services usually run twice a day and offer a number of connections for travellers heading to
Europe from
Glasgow.
The carrier blamed rises in various charges that led to it operating at a loss on the Stansted-Glasgow route.
In a statement earlier this week, Air Berlin's spokeswoman commented: "The doubling of the air passenger duty made our UK domestic hub operation commercially difficult."
The BBC reported in August that the airline is to scrap its flights between Stansted and
Belfast from October 29th.
However,
Air Berlin recently announced that it is to launch a new service between
Stansted and
Munich on November 5th, which will run twice a day on weekdays and once a day at weekends.
