British Airways has said that it expects to see the lifting of current hand luggage restrictions "soon".
Currently, travellers must place liquids in separate plastic bags and can only carry one item of cabin luggage onto flights.
Reporting its results for the first half of 2007, airline chief executive Willie Walsh stated that the removal of these rules would be "good news" for passengers.
"This will go a long way to relieving the hassle factor of the one-bag limit," he commented, adding that
British Airways has boosted its direct baggage performance in the last few weeks.
In its interim management report, the airline also announced that it saw an increase in profits for the first half of the year and reported a rise in the number of customers travelling in its
premium classes.
It additionally noted that public trials at the new Terminal 5 at
Heathrow Airport will begin this weekend in preparation for its opening in March next year.
