A significant number of holidaymakers are failing to take green credentials into account when booking their breaks, new research has found.
Almost 60 per cent of respondents to the survey by BLM Media said they would not reduce the number of foreign holidays they take to become more
eco-friendly, while over a third stated they would not pay more to make use of carbon offsetting schemes.
However, younger travellers were found to be more likely to take the environment into account, with 39 per cent asserting that they would consider taking fewer overseas breaks in order to reduce their carbon footprint, TravelMole reports.
More than four in ten holidaymakers added that they would not arrange a break with a firm known to be green just to help the environment, however.
"The green message is not getting through to holidaymakers who appear to value their vacations more than the environment," commented Chris Armond, business director at BLM.
According to the Department for Transport, the UK aviation industry deals with more than 180 million passengers every year.
