Holidaymakers looking for a cheap
ski holiday might want to fly to eastern Europe.
According to research from Post Office Travel Services, skiers heading to countries such as
Bulgaria,
Romania and
Slovenia are likely to find that the cost of holidaying there is cheaper than in more popular ski destinations.
The organisation cites Borovets in
Bulgaria as the biggest bargain destination, with ski equipment and living costs significantly lower than in some of the bigger resorts.
Meanwhile, other low-cost ski holiday locations were found to include countries such as
Italy and
Germany - with the latter being a region particularly notable for its cross-country ski facilities.
"Challenging ski runs and resort facilities are more likely to determine choice for experienced skiers, whereas first-timers and families will be more concerned about sticking to a budget than about finding black runs," commented Helen Warburton, head of travel services for the Post Office.
"For those people and for bargain hunters, Bulgaria and Romania represent excellent value."
Last month, American Express revealed that the most popular ski destinations for 2008 are likely to include the
USA,
Japan and
Chile.
