Airports operated by BAA in the UK look set to shut down on three separate occasions in the new year, after employees voted to carry out strikes in January.
The Unite union announced the results of the ballot in a conference this morning, with the strike dates set for January 7th and 14th for 24 hours each, and January 17th for 48 hours.
Hubs run by BAA include
Heathrow,
Gatwick,
Stansted,
Edinburgh,
Glasgow,
Aberdeen and
Southampton airports. The striking workers include security, clerical and maintenance personnel, among others.
Unite spokesman Brendan Gold commented: "[The strike] will result in the closure of these airports," according to Bloomberg.
The vote result comes after
Virgin Atlantic cabin crew also made a resolution to strike in January, affecting a certain number of
flights to the USA.
However, the airline said it would be able to operate a largely normal schedule on the affected dates.
