Virgin Atlantic launches 'green' VIP transfers

Virgin Atlantic launches 'green' VIP transfers

Britons taking a first class flight to Los Angeles with Virgin Atlantic will soon be able to take advantage of eco-friendly airport transfers.

Passengers flying in the airline's Upper Class cabin to the US city will have the option of taking a shuttle from the airport to points across Los Angeles that is powered by emissions-free fuel cell technology.

It is hoped that if the scheme proves to be a success the environmentally-friendly vehicles will be deployed for holidaymakers landing in New York.

"Our mission to be the sustainable airline is clear, both on the ground and in the air," Sir Richard Branson, president of Virgin Atlantic, said at a news conference.

The announcement comes shortly after the carrier completed the first flight powered by biofuel last month.

Taking place between Heathrow Airport and Amsterdam, the flight was successfully conducted using biofuel made from coconut and babassu oil.
