American Airlines has confirmed that it will soon complete its withdrawal from
Gatwick Airport after 26 years of flying from the hub.
The carrier said that it will move more of its
Dallas-Fort Worth flights from Gatwick to
Heathrow Airport on April 13th in order to take full advantage of the forthcoming open skies agreement.
This follows a previous announcement of the movement of flights to Dallas-Fort Worth and
Raleigh-Durham, to be completed on March 30th.
American Airlines will serve
New York,
Boston, Dallas-Fort Worth,
Chicago,
Miami,
Los Angeles and Raleigh-Durham from Heathrow Airport following the flight move.
However, not all of the airline's London operations are moving to Heathrow - the carrier will continue to serve
New York from
Stansted Airport.
"These changes do not impact the total number of American flights to and from London," explained Henry Joyner of
American Airlines.
"We'll operate up to 18 daily departures to Heathrow this summer from seven US airports."
Last month, the airline picked up two awards in the Cellars in the Sky contest for its inflight wines, winning titles for tipples served in its
business class cabins in the process.
