There is much evidence to suggest that
spa tourism is on the rise again, it has been claimed.
According to the International Tourism Trade Fairs Association (ITTFA), a growing number of holidaymakers are combining a break with taking advantage of the health benefits of spa treatments.
It cites a burgeoning public interest in issues such as weight loss, fitness, alternative therapies, massage and yoga as one of the main drivers of the resurgence of spa tourism.
"As visiting a spa becomes a more integral part of people's lifestyles and personal grooming regimes, an increasing number of spa-goers will look to combine the occasional luxury spa experience with a visit overseas," the ITTFA said in a statement.
A number of holiday destinations around the world are well known for their provision of spa facilities, most notably
Bulgaria, which has more than 840 hydro-mineral springs concentrated in three main regions.
