Spa holidays 'becoming popular again'
There is much evidence to suggest that spa tourism is on the rise again, it has been claimed.
According to the International Tourism Trade Fairs Association (ITTFA), a growing number of holidaymakers are combining a break with taking advantage of the health benefits of spa treatments.
It cites a burgeoning public interest in issues such as weight loss, fitness, alternative therapies, massage and yoga as one of the main drivers of the resurgence of spa tourism.
"As visiting a spa becomes a more integral part of people's lifestyles and personal grooming regimes, an increasing number of spa-goers will look to combine the occasional luxury spa experience with a visit overseas," the ITTFA said in a statement.
A number of holiday destinations around the world are well known for their provision of spa facilities, most notably Bulgaria, which has more than 840 hydro-mineral springs concentrated in three main regions.
