The continuing weakness of the dollar is prompting more people to
fly to the USA in search of shopping bargains.
This is according to the Association of British Travel Agents, which has said now could be the best time to head over the Atlantic as the dollar is at a particularly low point.
Spokesperson Frances Tuke also noted that
Dubai,
Singapore and
Hong Kong are other popular shopping destinations, but warned that travellers should ensure they stick to tax limits and keep expensive goods safe when making purchases abroad.
"You can't just buy whatever you want, there is a limit and you must make sure you haven't gone past that," she commented, adding: "We would say not to put anything of high value into your checked-in luggage. It's important that you take that in your hand luggage."
New York is one of the most popular shopping cities in the USA. Highlights include Macy's in Herald Square - which is the biggest department store in the world - as well as Bloomingdale's, Saks Fifth Avenue and the historic Orchard Street shopping district.
