Passenger traffic at UK
airports operated by BAA rose by 1.2 per cent in March, new figures have revealed.
Statistics released by the airport operator show that 12 million travellers passed through its facilities last month, with
Gatwick Airport seeing the biggest surge in traffic, recording an increase of 8.1 per cent.
Southampton and
Edinburgh airports were also among the hubs that recorded increases in traffic, seeing rises of 5.4 per cent and one per cent respectively.
About 600 cancellations at
Heathrow Airport helped to reduce passenger traffic by 0.6 per cent in March, although it still saw some 5.6 million travellers.
Currently, all flights taking off from and landing at
Heathrow Terminal 5 are scheduled to run as normal following numerous delays and cancellations last week, although passengers are still advised to double check with
British Airways that their service is operating as usual before leaving for the airport.
