Britons heading away on holiday to a new destination this summer have been advised to make use of a travel guide.

According to Andy Riddle of Footprint, while it is not ideal to follow everything written in a travel guide, such publications can offer a decent starting point for those embarking on travels in a place they have not visited before.

"It can be a shortcut to all the best opportunities and experiences, which might otherwise be missed," he remarked.

According to research undertaken by professional travel photographer Jim Batty in 2006, the people most likely to purchase a travel guide are those who are aged between 25 and 34, live in London and attempt to balance a professional, managerial or administrative career with raising a family.

Young single graduates under the age of 24 are also likely to make use of such guides, according to the statistics.
