Spain is set to be the most popular destination for those heading abroad this bank holiday weekend, according to the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA).
The organisation says that 1.9 million Britons are estimated to flock overseas between May 23rd and 26th, particularly as the weekend coincides with the half-term holiday for schools.
Destinations such as
the Canary Islands and
the Balearics look set to be particularly attractive for holidaymakers, as well as hotspots in
Italy,
Turkey,
Egypt and
Greece.
Florida is likely to be most popular for families heading away on a
long-haul holiday, while those going on a
city break will mostly head to the likes of
Paris,
Amsterdam,
Dublin,
Rome and
New York, ABTA said.
"Much has been talked about the credit crunch this year, but there is real strength in the travel industry as is shown by the number of people leaving the country this weekend," remarked Justin Fleming, president of ABTA.
According to FairFX.com, those heading abroad this half-term may save money by opting for a prepaid currency card rather than buying foreign cash at the airport.
