A travel guide company has issued a list of what it believes to be the most
spectacular buildings to see around the world.
According to DK Eyewitness Travel Guides, some of the best structures to see on a holiday include the Taj Mahal in
Agra, the Hagia Sophia in
Istanbul, the Sydney Opera House and Basilica San Marco in
Venice.
Other must-see buildings consist of the Flatiron Building in
New York, the Pompidou Centre in
Paris, the Sagrada Familia in
Barcelona and the Colosseum in
Rome, the firm states.
"Whether they mirror their surroundings or completely redefine them, there's no doubt that the buildings we visit across the world give a real sense of identity, history and character - and can often tell us a better story than the locals themselves," commented Douglas Amrine, publisher at DK Travel.
According to the Guardian, some of the best modern structures in the world include New York's Empire State Building, Bilbao's Guggenheim Museum and Berlin's Jewish Museum.
