Stansted Airport has won an award for its efforts to encourage more flyers to take public transport when travelling to the hub.
The airport won the Mobility Management in Companies prize at the International Transport Forum in Leipzig, Germany, where government and business officials from around the world convene to discuss transport-related issues.
Stansted said that about 44 per cent of its passengers travel to the airport via rail, bus or coach - the highest proportion in the UK.
"As a major international airport, we recognise that we have a responsibility to encourage as many passengers as possible to use public transport," remarked Nick Barton, strategy and solutions director for Stansted.
"I feel this award is well-deserved."
Stansted is the third largest airport in the UK, serving 23.4 million passengers a year with flights to 165 destinations around the world. The airport recently welcomed the launch of new services to
Athens and
Vilnius from the hub.
