New York was the most popular city destination in the
USA among foreign visitors in 2007, new figures have revealed.
The city saw 7.6 million overseas tourists arrive in the metropolis last year, beating the likes of
Los Angeles and
Miami, according to statistics from the US commerce department.
Other popular cities included
San Francisco,
Orlando,
Las Vegas,
Honolulu and
Washington, the Associated Press reports.
New York is set to host a number of major events this summer, including the premiere of much-anticipated Batman movie The Dark Knight, Pride Week, the Lincoln Centre Festival and free art performances as part of the Summer in the Square festival.
Other New York highlights include a host of events related to the recent release of the Sex and the City film and free activities and attractions such as walking tours of the
city centre, the Hispanic Society of America's museum and gallery and the Queens Botanical Garden.
