The average UK tourist's ideal holiday is to a destination in
Europe with sandy beaches and as few other Brits around as possible, according to new research.
A study by Abbey found that Europe is set to be Brits' favourite holiday destination this summer, despite the strength of the euro, with more than a quarter (26 per cent) of respondents planning to visit the continent.
Some travellers may be interested in visiting destinations in
eastern Europe or other regions outside the eurozone to ensure their money stretches as far as possible.
More than half (57 per cent) of people said that they would like to find a destination where they were unlikely to encounter other British holidaymakers.
Regular saving is the most common way of financing a holiday, with 62 per cent of people saying they pay for their trips with money they have saved over a sustained period.
A fortunate 23 per cent of the respondents to the Abbey poll said they could afford a foreign holiday with one month's pay packet.
The average Briton reportedly spends around £1,650, or ten per cent of their annual disposable income, on holidays.
