A new 24-hour help and information service has been launched to assist people visiting
Israel.
The government initiative allows travellers to call *3888 from any telephone to speak to tourism ministry representatives about subjects such as entry and exit regulations, visas, emergency assistance and directions.
Leaflets will be handed out at passport control points at Ben Gurion airport to inform visitors of the new service, with further information available at tourist information offices around the country.
Shaul Tzemach, director general of the ministry of tourism, said: "Quality and standard of service are the most important and influential factors in a tourist's decision to return to Israel.
"In addition, quality service helps improve Israel's image in the world as a leading tourist destination. Over the next few months, the ministry of tourism will work to improve the level of service for tourists in all areas of the tourism industry."
The first six months of the year saw 1.5 million tourists visit Israel, 45 per cent more than in the corresponding period of 2007.
UK flights to
Tel Aviv in Israel are currently on offer with airlines including
El Al,
bmi and
British Airways.
