Birmingham Airport has announced that August 2008 was its busiest month since operations began in 1939.
Some 1,079,970 people travelled through Birmingham Airport last month, surpassing the previous highest figure achieved in August 2005.
During the month, 741,445 scheduled passengers and 338,525 charter travellers passed through Birmingham Airport, representing a traffic increase of 7.4 per cent on the previous year.
The record-breaking August follows a number of successful months earlier in the year and puts the airport on course to achieve its best year to date.
Acting managing director Joe Kelly said: "The records continue to be broken here at the airport, following in the path of February, March, April, May and July, which were all record-breaking months.
"For us to be able to celebrate our busiest ever month is a great achievement and something that we are all very proud of."
A number of scheduled routes from Birmingham Airport experienced year-on-year growth in August, including services to
Bratislava,
Marseille and
Milan.
The coming months will see a number of developments at Birmingham Airport, including the launch of new
Turkish Airlines flights to Istanbul.
