Visitors to
Iceland will soon be treated to two impressive light shows in the country – one man-made and the other entirely natural.
On October 9th, Yoko Ono will visit
Reykjavik to relight the Imagine Peace Tower that was created to pay tribute to her late husband John Lennon.
The tower emits a 20-metre high beam of white light that will be visible across
Reykjavik from October 9th, Lennon's birthday, to December 8th, the date of his death.
Visitors can reach Videy Island, the location of the tower, on ferries from Reykjavik's Skarfabakki pier, which depart every day at 20:00.
Another light show that tourists in Iceland may get the chance to enjoy from October to March is the Northern Lights, which is sometimes visible on clear starry nights when the temperature is below zero degrees Celsius.
The likelihood of seeing the Northern Lights increases with proximity to the North Pole, meaning that there are locations in northern
Canada that offer a good chance of seeing the phenomenon.
