Property developer Nakheel has unveiled plans for a new inner-city harbour and tower development in
Dubai that will include the world's tallest building.
Designed to reach more than one kilometre into the sky, Nakheel Tower will be taller than the under-construction Burj
Dubai tower, which will be a mere 818 metres in height.
The building, which is expected to take ten years to complete, will comprise four individual towers within an individual structure as well as a crescent-shaped podium at its base intended to complement its height.
Other features of Nakheel's new development in the
United Arab Emirates will include the world's first inner-city harbour, 250,000 square metres of hospitality space and 100,000 square metres of land for retail purposes.
Speaking at the launch of the initiative, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, the chairman of Nakheel parent company Dubai World, said: "There is nothing like it in Dubai.
"Nakheel harbour and tower is located in the heart of 'new Dubai', where we have focused on creating a true community, a location for living, working, relaxing and entertaining, for art and culture. All of this is concentrated in one area."
Nakheel drew on influences from a number of great Islamic cities of the past to design the new development, including Alhambra in
Spain, Alexandria in
Egypt, Tangier in
Morocco and Isfahan in
Iran.
