Both
Virgin Atlantic and
British Airways have announced that the fuel surcharges paid by their customers will be reduced at midnight on October 15th.
British Airways announced that its World Traveller customers will see surcharges for
long-haul flights cut from £109 to £96 per flight, while the charges on shorter journeys will fall from £78 to £68.
World Traveller Plus services will have surcharges of £114.50 on long-haul flights compared to the previous £121, while charges on shorter flights will be cut from £88 to £83.
Virgin Atlantic will implement matching changes, with fuel charges for premium economy passengers falling from £88 to £83 on short-haul routes and from £121 to £114.50 on long-haul sectors.
Economy travellers will pay a £68 surcharge rather than £78 on shorter routes and £96 rather than £109 for long-haul services.
The airline's upper class surcharges will remain the same at £98 for shorter journeys and £133 for longer flights.
Virgin Atlantic said that the charge reductions are in response to a sustained downturn in the price of crude oil.
