The Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) of
Dubai has said that it is "ahead of the competition" in the travel industry thanks to the rate at which it develops new projects and attractions.
A number of new developments have opened in
Dubai over the past 12 months and there are more in the pipeline for 2009.
At this month's World Travel Market in
London, the DTCM will showcase what is described as "a staggering array" of new tourist attractions and initiatives.
Ian Scott, UK director of the DTCM, said: "The secret of Dubai's success is a real commitment to developing a world-class leisure and business offer for discerning travellers.
"As a destination, Dubai is establishing clear ground ahead of the competition and attracts an ever increasing number of visitors drawn by the emirate's unparalleled visitor experience."
One of the highlights of 2008 for the Dubai and
United Arab Emirates tourism industry has been the opening of Atlantis the Palm, which boasts more than 1,500 guest rooms, the Aquaventure water park and numerous bars, nightclubs and lounges.
Next year, the emirate's status on the world stage will be further boosted by the opening of the Burj Dubai tower, which will be the tallest building in the world.
