Stansted Airport eco-certification extended to 2011
Stansted Airport has celebrated receiving ISO14001 environmental certification until October 2011.
This means that the London hub continues to be the largest airport in the UK to hold the "coveted" ISO14001 certificate.
Stansted Airport had its endorsement extended following an audit by ERM Certification and Verification Services, which checked a number of aspects of the hub's environmental performance.
It first achieved ISO14001 status in 2005, an achievement which head of environment Andy Jefferson said the airport was "very proud of".
He added: "Our environmental management is critical to the sustainability of our business and is an issue we take extremely seriously.
"The assessment involved close inspection of various aspects of the operation and I'd like to say a big thank you to all the individuals and companies based at Stansted who work hard to improve their own performances, which directly impacts on the overall performance of our wider airport community."
Stansted Airport is one of the UK's leading hubs for leisure travel. Its most popular international destinations are Dublin, Rome and Milan.
