The
Hong Kong Tourism Board has launched an initiative encouraging visitors to explore the city by taking a tram.
An
official guide has been launched on the organisation's website providing details on more than 150 restaurants, shops and cultural attractions that can be reached by tram.
Known locally as 'ding dings',
Hong Kong's trams are part of the city's heritage, with a history dating back more than 100 years.
The city's tram network is one of only three in the world that still use double-decker cars, with the others located in
Blackpool in the
UK and
Alexandria in
Egypt.
Consisting of some 163 cars in total, the Hong Kong tram system carries an average of 230,000 passengers a day.
Adult fares are just HK$2 (16p) for trips on routes stretching from Kennedy Town in the west to Shau Kei Wan in the east, with stops at popular tourist locations such as Sheung Wan and Central.
