The tourist office of
France has announced that the
ski holiday season has got off to a strong start in the country, with heavy snowfall allowing some resorts to open early.
Some of the major skiing locations in France, such as Val Thorens, Tignes and Les Deux Alpes, are already operating.
Les Menuires is set to open part of its ski domain from December 6th before officially opening on December 13th, with ski passes for the first weekend available at a special rate.
Heavy snowfall in Chamonix will enable the Grand Montets area to open daily from December 6th, with other skiing zones such as Brevent-Flegere and Balme expected to welcome guests from December 20th.
The resorts of Chatel, Avoriaz and Les Gets partially opened last weekend following snowfall of 120cm at the top of the ski domain of Les Portes du Soleil, while Les Orres in the southern Alps is set to welcome visitors from December 13th.
Destinations that travellers can fly to in order to reach France's Alpine ski resorts include
Grenoble,
Lyon and
Nice.
