Travellers searching for connecting
flights to Canada for next summer will be able to take advantage of a new service from
Amsterdam to
Calgary being launched by
KLM.
The Dutch airline announced that it would begin a direct scheduled service to
Calgary on May 3rd 2009 as part of its summer schedule of flights.
Offering access to the scenic Canadian Rocky mountains, Calgary is a popular tourist destination.
The city also lies at the heart of Canada's oil and energy markets, making it an important location for
business travel.
KLM president and chief executive Peter Hartman said: "Under the present economic situation, it's even more important to choose destinations that meet a strong demand.
"By introducing Calgary to our network, we further enhance our product offer to our customers, who can now reach this important region in Canada on a direct flight from Amsterdam."
KLM operates its flights between
Europe and
North America with its joint venture partner Northwest Airlines, a subsidiary of
Delta Airlines.
UK travellers can access KLM's international network by flying to the airline's base in
Amsterdam from
Heathrow Airport,
Gatwick Airport or
Manchester Airport, among others.
