The oneworld alliance and its member airlines have today (February 3rd) celebrated the organisation's tenth anniversary.
Oneworld was originally founded by
British Airways,
Cathay Pacific and
Qantas and has expanded to include
American Airlines,
Iberia,
Finnair and others.
Senior executives of the alliance's ten member carriers met in
Madrid to mark the anniversary today.
All ten airlines will also be fitting some of their aircraft with a special oneworld livery featuring the group's logo in eight-foot-high bold lettering on the fuselage.
Willie Walsh, chief executive of British Airways, said: "As a founding member of oneworld, British Airways has benefited from ten successful years as part of the world's premiere airline alliance.
"Our customers have access to world-class in-flight products, more airport lounges, an unrivalled global network and connections to hundreds more destinations."
Oneworld members will be participating in a number of initiatives to mark the tenth anniversary, including ten per cent off all alliance fares for ten weeks and a new fare covering travel through
Europe, the
Middle East,
North America and
South America.
