Flybe 'keeps Britain moving'

Regional airline Flybe has claimed that it helped keep Britain "on the move" during the recent adverse weather by keeping cancellations and delays to a minimum.

On February 6th, the airline did not call off any of its 400-plus services and earlier in the week managed to limit cancellations to 117 flights.

Flybe, which serves five times more domestic routes than any other UK carrier, saw a big increase in same-day departure sales towards the end of last week as travellers used alternative connections allowing them to bypass snowbound airports.

The beginning of the Six Nations tournament, which saw matches being played in London, Edinburgh and Dublin, also led to an increase in demand over the weekend, particularly for Flybe services from Cardiff Airport and Southampton Airport.

Mike Rutter, the airline's chief commercial officer, said: "This week has been operationally challenging for everyone but the strength of our regional network model has more than proved itself in allowing us to keep Britain on the move.

"Despite the fact that the heavy snow had obviously forced us to cancel some flights earlier in the week, we've not come anywhere near the volume of cancellations experienced by other airlines, for which we are extremely proud."

Flybe was recently named regional airline of the year at an awards ceremony organised by Air Transport World magazine.
