Lufthansa has introduced a number of new check-in terminals which it claims will boost convenience for its customers.
Today (February 16th),
Germany's flag-carrying airline began replacing its 300 existing terminals with the new versions.
The first will be opened at the carrier's biggest hub in
Frankfurt and also at
Malpensa Airport in
Milan, the home of the recently launched Lufthansa Italia.
All of Lufthansa's check-in terminals throughout
Europe are set to be replaced by the end of April.
The new versions are equipped with a radio frequency identification (RFID) scanner that can read passports and cards, which enables travellers with machine-readable passports to check in more quickly.
Passengers who have checked in online but wish to change their seat can do so by scanning the barcode on their boarding pass and bringing up the check-in menu.
Lufthansa claims to be the first airline worldwide to use check-in terminals equipped with RFID technology.
The carrier's Italian subsidiary operated its first scheduled service, from
Milan to
Barcelona, on February 2nd and will launch new flights to destinations including
London and
Madrid in March.
