Air New Zealand has reported that its new mPass application for the iPhone is proving popular, with more than 1,500 passengers making use of it in the past seven days.
The mPass is a new
travel technology option that allows Air New Zealand passengers to download their boarding passes to their iPhone and also view up-to-date flight booking details.
An electronic barcode allows travellers to proceed straight to the boarding gate if they only have carry-on luggage.
After being made available on the Apple Store website at the end of last month, the application has become the most popular download in the travel section and the top free business download in all categories.
Bruce Parton of Air New Zealand said: "We are constantly looking at ways to improve our customer experience - from booking through to boarding - meaning that our valued passengers can spend the minimum amount of time possible at the airport and more time living their lives."
Travellers who own iPhones can also use the device to access web-based applications such as
Just the Flight Mobile, which lets customers book flights and catch up on the latest travel news on their phone.
