Flybe to launch new flights from London to Dusseldorf
Regional airline Flybe has announced that it is to make Gatwick Airport its 14th base by launching new flights to Dusseldorf in Germany this summer.
The service will get underway on June 22nd with three daily flights during the week, one departure every Saturday and two on Sundays.
Flybe has undergone a major expansion at London Gatwick over the past 18 months that has included the launch of domestic flights to Aberdeen, Newcastle and Newquay.
The airline is now the third-largest slot holder at the airport and will be operating nearly 500 flights every week during the forthcoming summer season.
Chief commercial officer Mike Rutter said: "The initial basing of one aircraft with 33 new staff will make Gatwick one of our most important airports and our 14th base.
"Flybe is gaining a reputation as an airline that bucks the trend in these challenging economic times and this announcement is a confident statement by the Flybe board in our ability to continue our growth."
The airline is currently preparing for a busy Easter period that is expected to see more people travelling to destinations including Belfast, Malaga and Rennes.
