VisitScotland has announced the launch of a new £1 million tourism campaign encouraging travellers to save some money during difficult economic times by visiting the country this year.
The Perfect Day initiative is aimed at
UK travellers and is expected to reach some 36 million people, making it Scotland's biggest domestic tourism campaign to date.
Some 250 Scottish tourism partners are participating in the promotion, from youth hostels to luxury hotels, showcasing the variety of options available in Scotland as an alternative to destinations in
Europe or further afield.
People who see the television and cinema advertisements will be informed of some of the unusual activities that travellers can enjoy in Scotland, such as taking a themed cruise along the country's west coast.
Tourism minister Jim Mather said: "This is the biggest domestic tourism drive VisitScotland has ever launched and we want to showcase the best of what Scotland has to offer to tourists right across the UK.
"As people start to look to tighten their belts during these difficult economic times, this is a great opportunity to encourage people to consider the benefits of a domestic holiday in beautiful Scotland, rather than travelling abroad."
Flights to destinations such as
Edinburgh,
Glasgow and
Aberdeen in Scotland are available with carriers including
British Airways,
easyJet and
Flybe.
