Abta releases card advice for overseas travellers
Abta - The Travel Association has released a new guide designed to keep travellers informed of the potential risks and repercussions of using payment cards abroad.
Created in collaboration with the UK Cards Association, the guide has been put together to provide advice and information for business and leisure travellers.
It is available for download from the UK Cards Association website and includes information on charges that can result from overseas card transactions and how British travellers can protect themselves against fraud.
There were some 317 million overseas transactions on cards issued in the UK last year, with a total value of £27.8 billion, according to the UK Cards Association.
Casia Zajac, head of communications for Abta, said: "There are a range of payment options available for UK consumers going abroad and paying with plastic continues to be an increasingly popular choice.
"The advice in this guide provides holidaymakers and business travellers with useful information that can help ensure a safe and stress-free time overseas."
Apacs, the UK payments association, said recently that plastic is one of the safest ways of spending money abroad, partly because the consequences of losing a card are not as severe as losing cash.
