More people want to visit
Edinburgh during their lifetime than any other city in the UK, new research has found.
The study by hotel chain Travelodge revealed that the Scottish capital was favoured over leading destinations like
London and last year's European Capital of Culture,
Liverpool.
According to the survey, which polled some 5,500 Brits, heritage cities like York and Glasgow as well as the world-famous university cities of Oxford and Cambridge were far behind
Edinburgh as a top 'kick the bucket' destination.
Edinburgh Council welcomed the results, calling the findings of the report "great news" for the city and its inhabitants.
Cllr Jenny Dawe, leader of the local authority, said: "The city truly has the best of everything; historic buildings and great atmosphere, a vibrant leisure and retail offering, abundant green space, outstanding schools and universities - the list goes on.
"Little wonder, then, that people continue to think of
Edinburgh as a must-visit location."
