Get into art in Italy
A visit to Italy could prove an attractive option for art lovers over the coming months, with a number of new exhibitions set to open across the country.
In Rome, a show comparing the work of Caravaggio with that of Francis Bacon will be launched at the Galleria Borghese on October 2nd, marking the 400th anniversary of the Italian painter's death and the centenary of Bacon's birth.
Another exhibition opening in the Italian capital this year is Paintings of an Empire, which will bring together examples of imperial art including frescoes, landscapes and portraits on wood and glass.
The selection of artworks will be on display at the Scuderie del Quirinale venue in Rome from September 24th until January 17th 2010.
Art is currently high on the cultural agenda in Venice, with the exhibition Making Worlds, which is part of the 2009 Biennale, set to remain open at the Arsenale and other venues in the city until November 22nd.
Florence will host its own Biennale celebration from December 5th to 13th this year, attracting some 800 artists from 74 countries to the Tuscan city.
