Christmas shoppers urged to visit eastern Europe
People planning to head overseas to explore some Christmas markets this year have been encouraged to visit eastern European cities such as Prague, Warsaw and Budapest to find the best value.
Post Office Travel Services surveyed the cost of eight typical Christmas gifts and found that Prague is the most affordable destination of all, while Krakow and Warsaw also offer good value.
The organisation also researched the general cost of living in popular cities, with Budapest reportedly the cheapest at a cost of £25.40 for four drinks and a meal out for two.
People planning a trip to the eurozone this Christmas were informed that Berlin is a cheaper option than Paris, with plenty of bargains set to be available when the German capital's Christmas market opens on November 23rd.
Sarah Munro, head of travel services at the Post Office, said: "Budget-conscious UK tourists who want to plan a shopping trip in Europe this year should do their homework before booking to ensure that they pick a city break where the pound in their pocket will stretch further.
"Sterling continues to move up and down on a daily basis against the euro but the eastern European currencies particularly the Polish zloty have remained weak."
