Dubai International reveals strong start to year
Dubai International Airport has revealed that it experienced a strong start to 2010, with increases in traffic signalling an "industry rebound".
The hub handled more than 3.86 million passengers in January - an increase of 17 per cent from the same month in 2009.
This represents the eighth consecutive month of double-digit passenger growth at Dubai International and the highest monthly total ever recorded at the airport, exceeding the previous record of 3.81 million set in December 2009.
Operator Dubai Airports cited the ongoing expansion of Emirates as one of the major drivers of growth at the international hub.
Paul Griffiths, chief executive of the organisation, commented: "Dubai is on the leading edge of a rebound in global air traffic.
"Dubai International has been registering robust growth since the second quarter of 2009 when the industry's key hubs were still recording negative growth."
According to recent figures from Airports Council International, Dubai International currently leads the world's top 50 airports in terms of passenger traffic growth.
The hub is served by several carriers, including Qatar Airways, KLM and British Airways.
