Cyprus and Egypt recommended for spring sun seekers
Travellers who are planning a holiday in April with the aim of enjoying some sun have been encouraged to consider Cyprus, Egypt or the Canary Islands.
Online travel guide portal Simonseeks pointed out that these destinations all have "decent average temperatures and good sunshine records in April, plus a flight time of five hours or less".
The site described the Easter period as "a tricky time of year for finding reliable sunshine", with even traditional hotspots such as Majorca, the Algarve and Spain's Costa del Sol prone to unsettled weather.
People more interested in a city break than a beach holiday were encouraged to consider alternatives to "classic destinations" such as Paris, Venice and Barcelona, with Seville being recommended on the strength of its Holy Week processions.
Simonseeks also pointed out that Istanbul is currently full of activity owing to its status as European Capital of Culture, while Marrakech and Cairo could see an increase in visitors before the summer heat begins to build up.
