New destinations emerging on culinary tourism scene
A number of destinations around the world are becoming increasingly appealing to people planning culinary tours, an expert has revealed.
Erik Wolf, president of the International Culinary Tourism Association, said awareness of the importance of this sector has been increasing across the world for several years.
He revealed that there are "always new destinations that catch the eye of culinary travellers" and described Singapore, Peru and South Australia as "particularly hot right now".
There are also a number of destinations in Canada that have boosted their appeal to food lovers in recent times, such as Vancouver and Halifax.
Mr Wolf explained that culinary tourism is particularly significant for holiday destinations and operators as it is one of the only sectors that has universal appeal.
"Food and drink are the only tourism products that all visitors enjoy," he said. "Not everyone shops, attends the theatre or golfs, but everyone eats."
The Post Office recently identified Prague as the cheapest destination for a European city break in a survey that covered the cost of meals, drinks and various other products.
