It has been revealed that the film industry continues to inspire millions of people, with British individuals heading to some of the places depicted in their favourite entertainment. As part of the Holiday Extras Customers' Awards 2011 it was shown that 'Australia', 'Around the World in 80 Days' and 'Shirley Valentine' continue to influence holiday choice.
Of 14 movies, five were finally chosen as the most inspirational. Paris, China and India are all highlighted in 2004's 'Around the World in 80 Days', with people heading to destinations visited by character Phileas Fogg. Meanwhile, Australia's beautiful outback and cities such as Melbourne and Sydney remain very popular with British travellers. And with epic love story 'Australia' by Baz Luhrmann showcasing the country in beautiful style, many people head to locations seen in the film.
Film favourite 'The Beach' also continues to inspire trips to Thailand after all these years, with Koh Phi Phi in particular being a prime destination as travellers enjoy Phuket and the surrounding areas. Greece, which is seeing a resurgence in tourism, made the list with the film 'Shirley Valentine', whilst television series 'An Idiot Abroad' was also shown to inspire the British public wanting to explore the destinations visited by presenter Karl Pilkington.
