The London Festival of Architecture takes place between June 20th and July 20th and sees attendees able to take part in activities such as cycle tours, walks and boat trips to view the city's most inspiring buildings.

Exhibitions, talks, performance and large-scale street animations will also take place over the course of the festival.

The event concentrates on five main city areas, including the museums and galleries of Kensington, Chelsea and Knightsbridge, the Olympics development and more at the Thames Gateway and public spaces in King's Cross, Bloomsbury and Covent Garden.

Other areas of interest consist of Southwark and South Bank, where evening events and exhibitions will take place, as well as Clerkenwell and the City of London, where events will explore sustainable architecture and various installations.

Some of the most famous examples of great architecture that can be found in London include St Paul's Cathedral, Christ Church, Westminster Abbey and the Museum of Natural History.

According to the airport, more than 712,000 flyers passed through its gates last month, representing an increase of 6.2 per cent compared with last year.

"These figures represent even more good news for the airport and we are delighted that it is yet another record-breaking month," remarked Joe Kelly, acting managing director at Birmingham Airport.

German carrier Lufthansa recently launched a new route to Hamburg from Birmingham Airport, with flights taking off from the hub six times a week in total.

Stansted currently serves more than 33 scheduled and charter carriers carrying a total of 23.5 million passengers every year to and from more than 160 destinations.

The airport is hoping to build a second runway in the near future, which would help it to build capacity of about 35 million flyers a year.

Flights to and from New York, Abuja, Bangalore, Beijing, Cairo, Cape Town, Lagos and Phoenix will move from Terminal 4 to Terminal 5 on this date.

All eight services account for about one-quarter of the British Airways schedule for Terminal 4. The move had been originally scheduled to take place earlier this year, but was delayed when the full extent of the issues at the new terminal came to light.

"We have taken this decision in the interests of customers, who remain our priority at all times," said British Airways chief executive Willie Walsh.

"Terminal 5 is now working well and we are pleased we can confirm our plan to move in some additional flights on June 5th."

Earlier this week, British Airways released figures indicating that over 1.4 million passengers have used Terminal 5 since it opened.

Previously beset by problems with its baggage handling system, the facility has now been operating normally for several weeks, according to British Airways.

"Hamburg is an excellent destination to visit, whether on business or leisure and boasts magnificent promenades, shopping malls and trademark canals," commented Peter Vella, business development director at Birmingham Airport.

He added: "Hamburg has many parks and gardens, making it Germany's greenest city."

Hamburg is the second largest city in Germany. Its attractions include the historical Old City district, its port and fish market, the Alster lake, the town hall and the city's various shops and zoos.

These could include Thailand, Egypt, Bulgaria, Turkey and the USA, according to the Post Office.

Travellers on the flights take off from Edinburgh at 11:50 BST, landing in the Big Apple at 14:35 local time.

Meanwhile, the return leg departs from New York at 22:00 local time, arriving in Edinburgh at 10:20 BST.

"Delta's new flight connecting New York to Edinburgh continues our successful international expansion, which includes 13 new international destinations this year," commented Glen Hauenstein of Delta.

The airline celebrated 30 years of offering transatlantic flights earlier this week, with the carrier's first such service taking off from Atlanta for Gatwick Airport on April 30th 1978. It now operates about 37 transatlantic routes.

The airline has announced that it is to scrap its inflight beauty offerings and expand its range based in the Heathrow Clubhouse lounge.

Treatments at the facility look set to increase by 70 per cent as a result, while spa facilities will continue to be offered in the airline's other Clubhouses.

"We continually review and adapt the product we are investing in to ensure it reflects what is most valued by our customers," commented Lyell Strambi, chief operating officer at Virgin Atlantic.

"As a result of the review, we are increasing the number of beauty therapists working at the Heathrow Clubhouse."

The carrier unveiled its new Clubhouse facility in Boston in March. The £1 million lounge includes a library and business centre, a living area, a brasserie and a deli.

Other Clubhouses are located at Gatwick Airport, as well as both JFK and Newark airports in New York and hubs in Washington, San Francisco, Johannesburg, Tokyo and Hong Kong.

Statistics released by the US department of commerce show that UK arrivals rose by almost six per cent to almost 250,000 during the month, accounting for nearly four in ten of all visitors from western Europe.

JFK Airport in New York, Miami and Los Angeles were the top three destinations for overseas visitors during the month.

Meanwhile, Honolulu, New York Newark and San Francisco took fourth, fifth and sixth places respectively. In total, 3.4 million overseas visitors travelled to the USA during January.

"The strong start in 2008 builds on the momentum set in 2007, which was a record-breaking year for international arrivals and receipts," commented commerce manufacturing and services assistant secretary William Sutton.

According to figures from the Office for National Statistics, 18.3 million Britons travelled overseas between December 2007 and February 2008.

The business class airline said that it is to receive $25 million (£12.7 million) of investment from the unnamed investor, with about $75 million more to come to help the carrier move into new markets, including the Middle East, the Far East and Africa.

Currently, Silverjet operates a number of business class flights to New York and Dubai from Luton Airport.

"This investment places Silverjet in a strong position to further develop our brand and proposition," commented Lawrence Hunt, chief executive of Silverjet.

"It is particularly encouraging to have secured this agreement in a challenging environment for all airlines."

Silverjet's flights allow passengers to travel through a private terminal at Luton Airport, including 30-minute check-in, dedicated security and use of the Silver Lounge. In the air, the carrier provides a gourmet menu, flat beds and more.

From June 7th, Vatnajokull National Park in south-east Iceland will cover an area of 13,000 sq km, including features such as volcanoes, lava flows, huge glaciers, waterfalls, canyons and calderas, sand flats, rivers, lakes and lush vegetation, according to the Iceland Tourist Board.

It will include land that was previously unprotected and incorporate the whole of the Vatnajokull glacier, which is the biggest in Europe.

Holidaymakers in Iceland will be able to check out the park's features through a number of visitor centres, from which they will be able to indulge in a wide range of activities.

"I see a myriad of possibilities for all sorts of activities opening up, such as action tours, eco-recreation, study visits and learning experiences, as well as the chance to experience the nurturing silence of Iceland's highlands," commented Olof Yrr Atladottir, director-general of the Icelandic Tourist Board.
